LASIK Before Your Wedding: When to Plan It
Planning glasses-free vision before your wedding? Here is how to check suitability, allow enough time for healing, and plan around the big day. Read our guides to LASIK and Contoura Vision in Delhi, or book an assessment at New Vision Eye Centre.

Step 1: Check whether your eyes are suitable
Glasses-removal procedures are not suitable for everyone. Before any decision, a detailed assessment checks:
Stable glasses power: your power should not have changed significantly for about a year. If it is still changing, the procedure may need to wait.
Corneal thickness and shape: a corneal map (Pentacam / topography) checks whether the cornea is thick and regular enough, and screens for keratoconus, in which LASIK is not done.
Dry eye, eye allergy and general eye health, including the retina.
Age, general health and pregnancy: laser correction is usually done from 18 years of age, and is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when glasses power can change.
The assessment decides which option, if any, suits your eyes: LASIK, Contoura Vision, PRK / epi-Contoura (surface treatment) or ICL (implantable lens).
Contact lens users: stop wearing soft contact lenses for about a week before the assessment, and toric or hard (RGP) lenses for longer, as advised. Lenses change the shape of the cornea and can affect the measurements.

Step 2: Allow enough time before the wedding
3–4 months before: Get assessed. This leaves time for a repeat test if the power or measurements need confirming, and time to think.
At least 4–6 weeks before (LASIK, Contoura Vision, ICL): The latest sensible time for the procedure, so that vision has settled and any dryness has eased.
At least 2–3 months before (PRK / epi-Contoura): Surface treatments heal more slowly; vision keeps improving over several weeks.
Final 2–3 weeks: Not advisable for a first procedure. Leave room for normal healing and any follow-up.

What recovery usually looks like
First day or two (LASIK, Contoura Vision, ICL): vision is often clear enough for daily activities within a day or two. Some watering, grittiness and light sensitivity are common at first.
First few weeks: vision continues to settle. Many people notice dryness, and some see glare or haloes around lights at night. These usually reduce over weeks, but can last longer in some people.
PRK / epi-Contoura: the surface heals over several days, with discomfort for the first 2–3 days, and vision improves gradually over weeks.
Follow-up visits are usually the next day, at about a week and at about a month.
The surgeon will explain what to expect for your own eyes and procedure.
Things to plan around the wedding
Eye make-up: avoid eye make-up, eyelash extensions and false lashes for about 1–2 weeks after the procedure, or as advised. Plan any make-up trials after this period.
Bright lights and photography: in the first weeks, bright stage lights and camera flashes can feel glaring, especially at night.
Dry eyes: long functions, air-conditioning and late nights can make dryness worse. Carry the lubricating drops you are prescribed.
Rubbing, swimming and dust: avoid rubbing the eyes, swimming and dusty places for the period advised.
Travel: if you are travelling for the wedding or honeymoon, make sure you can attend the follow-up visits.

If the timing doesn't work
If your power is still changing, your measurements need re-checking, or the wedding is only a few weeks away, it is usually better to wait. Glasses or contact lenses can be used for the wedding, and the procedure can be planned for later, when there is time to heal without pressure. Questions about timing? Frequently asked questions
How long before my wedding should I get LASIK?
For LASIK, Contoura Vision or ICL, plan the procedure at least 4–6 weeks before the wedding, and get assessed 3–4 months before. For PRK or epi-Contoura, allow at least 2–3 months.
Can I wear eye make-up after LASIK?
Usually not for about 1–2 weeks, to lower the risk of infection. Your doctor will tell you when it is safe to start again.
Will my eyes look red in photos?
Some people have small red patches on the white of the eye after LASIK, which fade over one to two weeks. Allowing enough time before the wedding avoids this concern.
Is LASIK safe if I plan to become pregnant soon after the wedding?
LASIK is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding, because glasses power can change during this time. If a pregnancy is planned soon, discuss the timing with your eye doctor at the assessment.
What if I am not suitable for LASIK?
Other options such as ICL or surface treatment may suit some eyes. In some cases, glasses or contact lenses remain the safest choice.
