What ICL is
What is ICL Eye Surgery? ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is a very thin, flexible lens placed inside the eye, behind the coloured iris and in front of your natural lens. It corrects high minus power, plus power and, with a toric ICL, cylindrical power (astigmatism). ICL does not reshape the cornea, so no corneal tissue is removed, and your natural lens stays in place. It is often discussed for people with thin corneas or high glasses power. At New Vision Eye Centre, a NABH-accredited eye hospital in Paschim Vihar, suitability is decided only after a detailed eye examination.

Who ICL May Suit
Aged about 21–45

Healthy eyes with no active eye disease
High minus power (e.g. −6 or more) or significant plus power

Glasses power stable for at least one year
Told they are not suitable for LASIK or Contoura Vision

Thin or irregular corneas, where laser correction may not be advised
The assessment
Assessment: A detailed visit of about two hours, with corneal mapping, eye measurements, pupil size and a dilated retina check.

How the ICL Procedure Works
Anaesthesia: The eye is numbed with numbing eye drops, without an injection. Most people have minimal discomfort.
Day-care: You go home the same day. Eyes are usually treated one at a time.
The procedure: Through a very small opening, the folded lens is placed inside the eye, where it gently unfolds into position. It usually takes about 4–5 minutes per eye.
Recovery: Many people notice clearer vision within a day or two. Eye drops are used for a few weeks, and desk work is often possible within a few days.
Follow-up: Usually the next day, after a week and after a month, as advised.
Cost: ICL is from ₹60,000 per eye; the final cost depends on lens type, power and tests.
