Cataract surgery in Paschim Vihar, Delhi

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. It usually develops slowly, and surgery is the only way to remove it. No eye drop or medicine can clear a cataract. New Vision Eye Centre in Paschim Vihar assesses cataract and performs cataract surgery under Dr Manik Mittal.

Signs that call for an eye check

  • Blurred or misty vision that glasses no longer correct

  • Glare from headlights at night, or haloes around lights

  • Colours looking faded or yellowish

  • Frequent changes in glasses power

  • Difficulty reading, or in dim light

These can also come from other eye conditions, so an examination is needed before any conclusion.

When is surgery advised?

The decision is made at examination. It depends on how much the cataract affects daily activities such as reading, cooking, walking outdoors or driving, and on the health of the rest of the eye. Not every cataract needs immediate surgery.

How the surgery is done

In phacoemulsification, the clouded lens is broken into small pieces through a very small opening and removed. A clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is then placed in the same position. Most people go home the same day. Eye drops are prescribed for a few weeks, and you will be told which activities to avoid.

Lens options

Monofocal lenses are set for one distance, commonly distance, so reading glasses may be needed. Trifocal lenses are designed for distance, intermediate and near vision. Toric lenses are used when there is significant astigmatism. We work with all lens brands. Your surgeon explains the options that fit your eye measurements, your routine and your budget, and the choice is yours.

Charges

Cataract surgery packages start from ₹12,000 per eye. The final charge depends on the lens chosen, the examination findings and any other condition such as diabetes. The Surgery Counsellor can explain the details before you decide.

Before you come

Bring earlier prescriptions and reports, a list of your medicines (especially for blood pressure, blood sugar or blood thinners), and an attendant. A diabetic or blood-pressure check may be advised before surgery.
