LASIK, which originally stood for laser in-situ keratomileusis, is a popular surgery that can correct nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic vision. It's one of many vision correction surgeries that work by reshaping your cornea, the clear front part of your eye so that light focuses on the retina in the back. Your doctor will give you eye drops to numb them. You may also request a mild sedative. They'll use a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser to create a thin flap in your cornea. They'll peel it back and reshape the tissue underneath with another laser. The flap will then be replaced, and the surgery will be completed.
