REFRACTIVE SURGERY

A Refractive surgical procedure is a medical procedure used to correct the refractive error in the eye (spectacle power). It is usually done to eliminate or reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses. It can be performed on a patient with stable refraction after the age of 18 to 21 years (glass power). All candidates must provide a detailed medical history as well as an eye exam. Corneal topography (Pentacam, Orbscan) and anterior segment Optical Coherence Tomography (ASOCT) are used to determine the shape, thickness, and curvature of the cornea, as well as other eye dimensions. The eye surgeon (ophthalmologist) makes a decision about the refractive surgery options available to the patient after gathering all of the information.
